.

However, as we believe that, in conducting the environmental audit for mining projects the ultimate aim is to identify and correct environmental and social concerns that arise with the implementation of the mininig operation, whether identified or not during the Environmental Impact Assessement ( EIA) process. The environmental audit should make such recommendations that lead to improving the operating and environmental and social conditions and long-term sustainability of those facilities and activities of the project. The recommendations seek to ensure that proponents of projects comply with environmental and social requirements and regulations in implementing the projects.

ConductIng a site environmental and health risk assessment to determine risks posed to the surrounding communities must be one among the objectives of the environmental audit

Documenting any unforseen adverse environment and social impacts in the initial EIA but might have occurred during mining operation should be included as amain tasks to be given to the consulting firm.

However, the TOR sent to us by a Ministry has ignored the above stated objective and important task. We formally requested the minstry to consider them in their TOR though not wellcomed.

Due to the above reason as an Authority we are still questioning the validity of the envtal compliance audit which is indicated in the letter. We are not yet sure why the minstry has failed to give enough attention and consider our conserns and comments from the begining given the sensitivity of this issue on the ground.
